MIAMI - Carrfour Supportive Housing will open a six-story, mid-rise building of affordable rental apartments in December in southern Miami-Dade County.
Construction is under way for an 80-apartment building named Casa Matias at the corner of South Dixie Highway and Southwest 260th St. in Naranja. The apartments are designated as permanent supportive housing for formerly homeless families and traditional low-income family housing.
“Casa Matias will give 80 families, 40 of whom were formerly homeless, a new start," said Stephanie Berman, president of Carrfour Supportive Housing, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating permanent places of residence for people getting back on their feet after becoming homeless.
Carrfour, which helped secure financing for the project, will manage the building and provide on-site supportive services to residents. Berman said the project is a joint effort with Biscayne Housing Group,
Casa Matias will contain 12 one-bedroom/one-bathroom units, 50 two-bedroom/two-bathroom units, and 18 three-bedroom/two-bathroom units in a six-story, mid-rise tower with a one-story parking garage and expansive indoor and outdoor community recreation space.
